Artist's Statement:

This work speaks to the tension between human necessity and environmental loss. It reflects a reality where the need to provide, to build, to survive, can lead to the gradual stripping of the very resources that sustain us. “Taking the Shade” invites the viewer to consider not only what is carried, but what is left behind. It is a meditation on accountability, resourcefulness, and the irreversible impact of our choices—both personal and collective.

Owning a free-standing sculpture also means living with a breakable investment — fired clay is durable but unforgiving in a fall. Secure the piece to a steady surface, keep it out of high-traffic toddler or pet zones, and document it in your home insurance the way you would any irreplaceable item.
